Learn about us – All Things Small and Green. My name is Gabriel Waksman. I am a biomedical researcher, the Courtauld Professor of Biochemistry at UCL, London, and also Professor of Structural and Molecular Biology at Birkbeck. For a long time, I’ve managed the joint Institute of Structural and Molecular Biology at UCL and Birkbeck and have coupled this with teaching and a very active research laboratory. I was elected to Fellow of the Royal Society in 2012, Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2008, and Member of German Academy of Science in 2014. I am still a very active researcher and if you would like to learn more about my research, please click here.
In 2016, prompted by Brexit, the election of Trump, my increased awareness of the massive damage inflicted on the natural world, and the lack of action on global warming, I decided to engage more with societal issues and chose to become more active in the defence of something I have always deeply cared for: nature and the environment. Hence, together with my friends Charlotte Vaughan and Martha Ware, I created this charity, All Things Small and Green, and became its CEO. It took us some time but we are finally there!
